Trade Associations of Building Industry in UK There are several trade associations in the United Kingdom. Nearly all the reputed building contractors in the country will be a member of one or more of these trade bodies. These trade associations provide periodical training to their members and advise them about the latest rules, laws and regulations that are related to the building industry. They also guide the householders and other building owners about their rights and assist them in finding builders of repute. The National Federation of Builders Ltd. (NFB) is one of the earliest and largest building trade associations in the UK. It was established in the late nineteenth century. They are the major representatives of the small and medium sized building contractors in the country. They represent the builders and talk to the government on several key issues related to the industry. They had addressed vital subjects regarding the Code of Sustainable Homes, Home Information Pack’s, Planning applications, CIL, etc. Another authoritative trade body that represents the building industry in the country is the Federation of Master Builders. The Federation was founded about 70 years ago and there are about 13,000 members across the UK. They also assist their members and the public at large with absolute transparency to ensure that the rights of the builders and the homeowners are properly protected. They also conduct campaigns to support the builders and train them in latest technological trends in the construction industry. As the largest trade association of builders in the country, the Federation is effectively projecting the opinions and problems of the builders on all major issues and policy matters. Many more registered trade bodies exist in the UK, with majority of them catering to a particular segment in the construction industry. Examples are the Guild of Master Craftsmen, Federation of Plastering & Drywall Contractors, The Federation of Crafts & Commerce, Confederation of Roofing Contractors, British Institute of Architectural Technologists, Architects Registration Board, National Access & Scaffolding Confederation, National Federation of Demolition Contractors, The National Federation of Roofing Contractors, National House-Building Council, Royal Institute of British Architects, etc. All these trade associations not only protect the rights of their members but also guide and advise the general public about the safeguards that they should take in the related subjects in the construction industry. Our wide contacts with all these trade associations and their members in the British construction industry had helped us to counsel our clients in all matters concerning building construction.
